Athletics NI were delighted to host Jenny Harris & Martin Rush for an Endurance Coaching Network at the Ramada Plaza on 17th February. Over 45 coaches representing 17 different clubs attended with attendees travelling from as far as Fermanagh and Londonderry.
Jenny Harris, England Athletics’ National Coach Mentor for Youth Development (Endurance), spoke on “Volume versus Intensity Through Maturation” and discussed age related training, the need to develop speed & nutrition for the young athlete.
Martin Rush, England Athletics Head of Coaching and Athlete Development, delivered an interactive session on “Structuring a year for 5000m & 10000m. What goes where and why?’’. Martin competed in the Barcelona Olympics in 1992 & in the same year he broke the British record in the 5km walk. He has worked with the Australian Institute of Sport, British Athletics and England Athletics and was able to share his broad experience and knowledge with attendees.
